Partner 08: St. Petersburg State Agrarian University (Northern Russia)

The Saint Petersburg State Agrarian University (StPSAU, www.spbgau.ru) is one of the largest, scientifically important and oldest higher agricultural educational establishments in Russia.

For more than 100 years of its existence the University suffered many changes but it has always occupied the leading position in the sphere of scientific research as well as training of high skilled specialists for the agribusiness industrial, agro-supplying businesses and farmers. Nowadays the University has got 10 faculties, 85 specialized chairs, Study science and production laboratories and academic experimental field. Moreover a branch of the university is in Kaliningrad.

Currently the university has got more than 8000 student, among of them 270 foreign students from 38 countries and more than 1200 members of staff (professors, scientists, administrative and technical staff).

In accordance with the state license, the university offers educational activities in 29 specializations, 11 major disciplines, 36 post-baccalaureate programs (postgraduate study) and 4 supplementary education programs.

The research work in the university is subdivided into major science fields (technical, economic and philosophy). The school has formed 14 science majors, the majority of which is developed on the base of world-famous science schools.

 

Partner 09: Moscow State University (Central Russia)

The Michail Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) is the oldest, the largest and the most well-renown classical research University of the Russian Federation with over 35 faculties, 40 000 full-time students, over 4 000 professors and lecturers, over 5 000 researchers. Moscow University accepts over 400 academic exchange students annually.

 

Partner 10: Russian State Agrarian University - Moscow Timiryazev Agricultural Academy, Moscow (Central Russia)

The Russian State Agrarian University - former Moscow Timiryazev Agricultural Academy (RSAU - MTAA, www.timacad.ru) - is the oldest agricultural university in Russia. It was founded in 1865 on the governmental order to establish the Petrovskaya academy of agriculture and forestry. At present the University is a large educational, scientific and production complex, comprising nine Faculties and an Affiliate in Kaluga city.

There are approximately 10.000 students (including the Kaluga branch) studying at the University and 300 international students. The University has four training and research farms located in different regions of Russia, includes a Field Experimental Station, the N. Timofeev Plant Breeding Station, Botanical and Dendrological gardens, a preventive clinic, different centers, complexes, departments, laboratories, studios and other structural elements. The University is located in Moscow city and occupies 542 ha including the university campus, historical garden, experimental fields and orchards.

 

Partner 11: Moscow State Agro-Engineering University (Central Russia)

The Moscow State Agro-engineering University (MSAU, www.msau.ru) is one of the leading agro-engineering institutions of Russia. It provides training for agricultural engineers and economists, as well as engineers-pedagogues for vocational educational system. University boasts more than 5,000 students. High qualification of our faculty is noted as a distinctive feature of the University: more than 65 percent of the University’s faculty holds Doctorate degrees and scientific titles. University boasts well equipped laboratories for student-training and research.

There are seven faculties; they provide training on 25 specializations. Military Training faculty of university prepares male students of resident training for lieutenant-ship. International undergraduate and postgraduate students are educated here. MSAU collaborates with 30 Universities and businesses abroad. International professional probations in Europe and the USA are available for the students fluent in a foreign language. University training is provided both by means of state support and contract financial compensation by individual students.

Partner 12: Orel State Agrarian University (Central Russia)

The Orel State Agrarian University (OSAU, www.orelsau.ru) is one of the leading Universities in the section of

preparation experts for the agrarian-industry-sector in Russia. The Universities offers 22 specializations/ programs in 5 faculties, 41 departments for 6000 students. Beside that there is an Institute for further education for labours as well as a Teaching and exhibition centre. The international work of the university comprises f.e. international internship for students, External studies for doctorates and academic staff, academic cooperation and projects with several universities, researchers and organisations in Europe and the USA.

 

Partner 13: Stavropol State Agrarian University (Southern Russia)

Stavropol State Agrarian University is one of the largest agrarian universities in the Russian Federation with an 80 years history and is one of the best among them according to the rating held by Russian Ministry of Education.

Nowadays 16.5 thousand students are studying in the university on full-time attendance and part-time attendance according to 72 professional educational programs (Specialist’s, Bachelor’s and Master’s Programs). The scientific and scientific pedagogical staff is tutored according to 35 postgraduate specialities and 8 doctorate specialities. There are more than 400 postgraduate students, PhD students and applicants of scientific degree. There are 5 PhD councils in 12 biological, agrarian, technological, veterinarian and economic fields.

There are 9 faculties, 57 departments, 90 innovational structural subdivisions, strong scientific industrial background, educational substation, library, publishing polygraphist complex as well as 6 dormitories, catering centre, sport and fitness centre, horse-racing school and many other subdivisions.

In 2008 the university entered the Magna Charta Universitatum – the association of 570 leading global universities. Accession to this association confirms the highest quality of educational programs and scientific research.

Stavropol State Agrarian University is the member of the Association of European Business that unites 670 leading global companies and organizations. In the frames of this association the university cooperates with such world-known companies as CLAAS, John Deere, BASF and many others.

Stavropol State Agrarian University is the member of the Association of European Life-Science Universities (62 life-science universities from 30 European countries). The main goal of this organization is the development of scientific, research and educational activities in the sphere of agriculture and life sciences across Europe.

 

Partner 14: Kuban State Agrarian University, Krasnodar (Southern Russia)

Kuban State Agrarian University (KubanSAU) was built in 1922 and it is largest agricultural institute of higher education in Russia and Europe. The university consits of 20 study and study-research buildings, 20 student dormitories for 9,5 thousands places, 4 branches, 19 innovative centers, biotechnology and certifying of food science-research institution, science-research institution of applied and experimental ecology, Agribusiness Institute, the largest botanic garden in Russia, students clinic, sport complex with swimming pool, outdoor stadium. The structure of university also contains two highly profitable educational farms – «Kuban» and «Krasnodarskoe».

There are 1170 lectures, including 75 Academicians and Corresponding Members, 200 Doctors and Professors, 576 Candidates of Science and Docents who involved in study process, which realized at 26 faculties and 88 departments on 51 specialties at Kuban SAU. The total amount of Doctors, Professors and Academicians is 77.6%, in Kuban SAU Postgraduate study is realized in 56 specialties and PhD-students have opportunity to defend their thesises at 7 Dissertation Councils.

In scientific environment Kuban SAU has longstanding business relations with foreign scientific organizations and major universities of following countries: Germany, Denmark, France, Belarus, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Bulgaria, Malaysia and others. The University is the member of European Association of Agrarian Institutions NATURA, which contains 35 institutions, the member of consortium IAMONET–RU, which includes two German partners – University of Tuebingen (Tuebingen) and university of Hohenheim (Stuttgart).

Kuban SAU contemplates perspectives for cooperation with major agrarian institutions of Germany on the following: transfer of developed in Kuban SAU technologies, joint research in different areas of knowledge, students exchange, training arrangement, conferences on economic, livestock farming, melioration, biotechnologies and other. Agrarian issues:

- working out theoretical bases and methods for preservation and reproduction of soil fertility;

- working out ecological energy- and resource-saving systems of farming on agrilandscape bases;

- science bases of selection and seed grain growing;

- working out theoretical and practical bases for minimalisation of soil treatment in field rotation;

- introduction, study and working out of methods for wood and grass plant reproduction in Krasnodar region environment;

- working out physico-biochemical bases for crop raising and phytosanitarium optimisation of main crops growing.

Viticulture and fruit and vegetable growing:

- upgrading of variety grape planting and vinemaking technology;

- working out adaptive technology systems for producing ecologycal fruits and berries;

- working out and adaptation ecological and power-saving technologies, providing realisation of potential productivity of vegetable cultures.

Livestock farming:

- working out and scientific explanation of ways and methods for producing of high quality livestock production based on the modern adopted systems and technologies;

- upgrading methods for morbidity decreasing, prevention, treatment and technologies of animal reproduction;

- working out and scientific explanation of methods for producing and using ecological functional fodder and food concentrates and additives based on resource-saving biotechnologies.

Processing of plant-growing and livestock production:

– upgrading and working out technologies for production pectine and pectin-products from different plant raw materials with high quality rates;

- working out and researching biotechnological processes of treatment agricultural raw materials.

Engineer issues:

- upgrading resource-saving machinery technologies, machine reliability and using МТП;

- explanation and working out complex melioration for sustainable soil development;

- working out theoretical bases for making new progressive materials and structures and technologies in building;

- theoretical explanation and practical realization of power-saving equipment, electric technologies and power supply sources;

- working out package plan for raising up effectiveness of natural water using and high-water guard of settlements.

Economical issues:

- explanation of directions on raising up sustainability and competitiveness of agricultural production;

- working out theoretical bases for formation and development of agrаrian market;

- upgrading mechanism of taxation juridical and individual people of region.

Ecology:

- assessment of impact of production and using wastes and flushings on agrilandscape conditions via biotesting methods;

- working out assessment criteria of sustainable development of North-West Caucasus ecosystem.

Humanist issues:

- working out system of lingvo-rhetoric-cultural education of students non-philological institutions;

- working out methodology of cultural researches;

- civil and patriotic education of students in modern conditions;

- working out methodology and theoretical bases of philosophy and history in university of agrarian area.

 

Partner 15: Samara State Agricultural Academy (Volga Region)

Samara State Agricultural Academy (SSAA) is an integral training, scientific, methodological and technological institution in the agro-industrial complex of Volga Region of Russia. It produces university degree specialists, provides qualification promotion courses for specialists with university degrees and upgrading for managers, specialists and researchers from agricultural sector, universities and research centres as well as carrying out of the fundamental and applied scientific research.

Annually the Academy graduates around 500 highly qualified specialists in 33 programs (Specialist’s, Bachelor’s and Master’s) for agriculture of Russian Federation and CIS. The SSAA comprises 8 departments, 34 chairs, 3 laboratories, 6 specialized centres (including the Language Centre), a veterinary clinic, 1 research division that includes 7 laboratories and an experimental farm with the overall area of about 6,000 ha.

7 specialized scientific councils are functioning in the Academy, awarding the doctor’s degrees in Biological (Crop Protection) and Agricultural (General Agriculture; Crop Selection and Seed Breeding; Crop Processing Technologies; Animal Breeding, Selection and Genetics; Animal Feed Technology; Animal Husbandry) fields of science.

 

The Academy is financed from the federal budget, extra budgetary sources, proceeds from scientific and technological contracts, as well as from the international and national grants.

 

Partner 16: Omsk State Agrarian University (Western Siberia)

The first Agrarian Institute in Siberia was founded in 1918. In the spring of 1994 Omsk State Agrarian University (OmSAU) was founded through reorganization of three Institutes (Agricultural Institute, Institute of Veterinary Medicine, Institute of Specialists Retraining and Agrarian Business). Now in the structure of the University are functioning Institutes of Economics and Finance, of Veterinary Medicine, of Ground Management, part-time study and professional development, Tara branch University, Agrarian College, 12 departments, Centre of pre-university training and professional diagnosis, experimental field, linguistics center, spare time centre, students’ club, sports and museum complex of History and Education. Besides, there are research laboratories in the University. Since 1994 the University has been headed by Nikolay Matveevich Kolychev, Veterinary Sciences Professor, a full member of International Higher School Academy, Honored RF Scientist.

The University provides all necessary conditions for training specialists of Agricultural Complex. The staff of 76 chairs consists of more than 900 tutors, most of whom are Professors and Associate Professors; students are trained full and part time at 29 specialties. Now there are 10 thousand students at Omsk State Agrarian University.

According to the results of work of 2004 Omsk State Agrarian University was endowed with Golden Medal "European Quality" and with Laureate Diploma "Top 100 Russian Universities". Omsk State Agrarian University deals with foreign partners aiming at the development of graduates’ professional qualities and consolidation of University’s international status. The University’s library is the oldest Agrarian library in Siberia and includes more than 800 thousand books. The basis of the scientific work of the University is the plan of fundamental and applied research on scientific equipment of the development of Agrarian-Industrial Complex of West Siberian region and Omsk region.

The unique architectural complex of the University is carefully preserved. At the same time were built the clinical study building of Veterinary Medicine Institute, the building of Institute of Economics and Finance, sport complex with a swimming pool.

 

Partner 17: Novosibirsk State Agrarian University (Western Siberia)

Novosibirsk State Agrarian University (NSAU, www.nsau.edu.ru) was founded in 1936. At first there were only two faculties: Agricultural Faculty and Livestock Farming Faculty. Now the University has 8 faculties, 56 chairs, 17 departments including Institute of Distance Training and Teachers tarining , Research Institute of Veterinarian Genetics and Selection, Institute of Beef Cattle, 2 laboratories, computer centre, machinery park, 2 experimental farm fields and experimental garden.

The Department of International Affairs was founded in Novosibirsk State Agrarian University in 2000. It works in cooperation with foreign educational organizations of Germany, Sweden, USA, China, Mongolia, Korea, Ukraine and Kazakhstan.

There is a highly profitable, developed and multisectoral farm "Tulinskoe" which has got an honor "The Red Banner of Labour" for productive activity in 1981.

NSAU is a big educational and research centre in the region. It works for needs of population and production of 3 regions in Siberia: Novosibirsk region, Kemerovo and Tomsk region. The specialists are trained according to 20 programs of higher education and 8 programs of extra education. During this time more than 48 thousands of specialists in agribusiness were trained.

There are 6700 full-time students and 6330 students of extra-mural form in NSAU. The students are trained by high qualified teachers. They are: academician of RAAS, 116 professors and doctors. More than 30% of teaching staff are Honorary Figures of Russian Higher Education, 408 teachers (64%) have degrees. There are pupils’ training in specialized classes and training courses in NSAU to provide availability of higher agricultural education for students from country and rural areas.

 

Partner 18: Buryat State Academy of Agriculture, Ulan Ude (East Siberia / Buryatia)

Buryat State Academy of Agriculture (BSAA), founded in 1931 is a leading school of higher education and a research center dealing with training specialists for agribusiness of the Eastern Siberia and the Far East. The Academy implements its activities according to the Institutional Development Plan made in conformity with the Federal Conception of reforms in education and its main principles: varied and continuous education; the leading role of education for the future of the country, development of the science and culture, establishment of the civil society and transfer to the sustainable economic growth on the modernized production base.

If in 1997 the Academy offered programs in 5 majors, the Academy now offers 17 majors and 22 post-graduate programs for about 7300 students. There have been institutional changes at the academy: besides 6 major faculties, there is an agricultural college offering 5 elementary vocational training programs on commercial principles. There is also a Centre of Continuous Education that offers programs by the order of the customers. These significant changes have allowed the Academy to pass the State Attestation and Accreditation Procedure executed by a Commission of highly qualified independent experts from the Ministry of education and other Universities of Russian Federation in September 2004.

The university has two branches: 1 in Chita region, 1 in the town of Buryatia-Republic. The Academy participated in many international projects (f. e. successfully implemented TEMPUS-projects)

Partner 19: Primorsky State Agricultural Academy, Ussuriysk (Far East Russia)

The Primorskiy Agricultural Academy has celebrated 50-years anniversary in September, 2007. The Academy consists of 7 institutes, realizes 13 educational programs of the high, 9 programs of postgraduate and more than 20 programs of additional vocational training. It carries out preparation, retraining of science officers, executives and experts of agrarian and industrial complex. In Far East region the Academy is the leading scientific and methodical center in agrarian and adjacent areas.

Over 4.500 students study in the Academy. 30 faculties, more than 10 structural divisions, including educational facilities by the area of 10 thousand hectare and forestry of 46 thousand hectare of woods of the first category are involved in the preparation. Educational process provides the competent personnel from among which about 60 % has scientific academic degrees and statuses. The Academy maintains international contacts to Germany, South Korea, China, Great Britain and the USA.
